SASKATOON - Three first half goals led the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a 3-1 victory over the visiting No. 4 Trinity Western University Spartans on Field 7 in Saskatoon's PotashCorp Park.

Saskatchewan opened the scoring quickly on a rainy, cold and windy day in the 15th minute. Third-year Bryce Marinus sent a cross-ball in front of the net finding Gabriel Bautois' foot. He was able to tap it into the empty net.

Marinus assisted on the second goal in the 27th minute dribbling around three Trinity Western defenders to get the play to Marcello Gonzalez's foot. The Huskies added the third goal in the 43rd minute when Jacob Powell was left alone in front of the net.

Trinity Western put pressure on in the dying minutes of the match missing wide twice, before Vito Poletto found the net in the 90th minute. He knocked the ball in after it bounced around in front of the net from a corner kick.

Reigning Canada West Third Star Greg Buckley made six saves for the Huskies, while Andrew Hicks stopped two for Trinity Western. The Spartans outshot the Huskies 17-11 in the match.

With the win the Huskies improve to 2-3-2 on the season, while the Pacific Division first-place Spartans drop to 6-2-1.

The Huskies remain at home to host the Fraser Valley Cascades Sunday, while the Spartans travel to Winnipeg to meet the Wesmen.
