WINNIPEG - The Mount Royal University Cougars completed a weekend sweep against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen after posting a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.

Mount Royal (5-1-0) defeated the host Wesmen (0-5-1) 1-0 in the series opener Saturday afternoon.

Joshua Cameron (36th min), Yousaf Nazari (37th min) and Justin Anderson-Louch (53rd min) scored for the Cougars.

After a cautious start by both teams to open the contest, it was the Wesmen who had the best scoring chance early on. The Cougars took control of the opening half with two quick goals. In the 36th minute Josh Cameron scored his second goal of the season and seconds later in the 37th minute Yousaf Nazari netted his second goal of the season to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

After the halftime break, Mount Royal hit the scoreboard in the 53rd minute. Justin Anderson-Louch took a feed from Nazari and beat Wesmen goalkeeper Joshua Partaker to make the score 3-0.

Winnipeg hit the scoreboard in the 77th minute as Andrew Kliment scored his second goal of the season off a feed from Krzysztof Szulc and beat Valley with a low shot to cut the Cougars lead to 3-1.

Mount Royal outshot Winnipeg by a 15-10 margin. Partaker made nine saves while Valley stopped four shots.

Mount Royal will be on the road next weekend visiting Trinity Western on Friday and Fraser Valley on Saturday.
