LETHBRIDGE – On the strength of two second half goals, the Lethbridge Pronghorns returned to the win column with a 2-0 win over the MacEwan Griffins in Canada West men's soccer action.

The win snaps the 'Horns three game losing streak and improves their record to 2-3-1. The Griffins are still in search of their first win of the season and fall to 0-3-1.

Mike Weigle and Nico Pasquotti scored for the 'Horns and Nolan French made two saves to earn the clean sheet.

Looking to rebound from a loss on Friday, the Pronghorns jumped out of gates with pressure on the Griffins but could not capitalize on their early chances. Nico Pasquotti had the first real opportunity but his shot from the top of the box went just over the bar.

Kendell Wiens narrowly missed with a shot and connecting on a 'Horns corner kick.

After weathering the early pressure, the Girffins had a trio of dangerous opportunities but 'Horns keeper Nolan French was equal to the task. First he made a great diving save off of Joshua Samuel, followed by a save off of Lahai Mansaray's header.

At the half, the 'Horns had six shot attempts but none of them found the net, while the Griffins were credited with three shot attempts.

Early in the second half, the 'Horns broke the deadlock. Blake Pipke crossed the ball into the box and Weigle put a jumping header into the top corner for his second goal of the season.

MacEwan nearly brought the game back level just before the 60th minute but Brian Mayall's rocket from just outside penalty area rung off the crossbar.

With 12 minutes remaining, Pasquotti ran on to a Kendell Wiens flick on and slide the ball through Griffins keeper Dylon Powley's legs to double the 'Horns lead.

The 'Horns head back out on the road next weekend, traveling to BC to face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack and UBC-O Heat. The Griffins return home to host the Fraser Valley Cascades and the Trinity Western Spartans.
