SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies and MacEwan University Griffins played to a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon on Field 7 in Saskatoon's PotashCorp Park.

Both teams are still on the hunt for the first wins of the Canada West men's soccer season, sitting 0-2-1 in 2016.

MacEwan opened the scoring with just two minutes remaining in the first half. Scoring his first goal of the season, Lahai Mansaray dribbled around the Huskie defenders to pop the ball low on the left side passed keeper Greg Buckley in the 43rd minute. The goal came after Saskatchewan controlled the temp and play for the majority of the half.

The Huskies' best chance of the first half was on a missed Carson MacDonald penalty kick that was shot well-over the cross bar in the 32nd minute.

Tyler Redl notched the game at one in the 69th minute on a ball sent in by rookie Shedrek Samuel. It was the first goal scored by the Huskies this season.

Saskatchewan continued to pressure late with two corner kicks and five shots late in the second half but Griffins' keeper Dylon Powley kept his team in the match.

Powley made eight saves in the match, while Buckley made one for Saskatchewan.

The Huskies remain at home to host rival the Alberta Golden Bears on Sunday, while MacEwan travels to face the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
