CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars got by on the strength of three early goals to defeat the Lethbridge Pronghorns 6-1 Wednesday night at MRU Stadium Field. Darius Ramsey, Cody Cook (2), Jake Vickers, Josh Cameron and Ryan Clancy found the back of the net for the Cougars. Kendall Wiens scored the lone goal for Lethbridge.

Mount Royal opened the scoring on an opportunistic play by rookie forward Darius Ramsay. After a shot on goal the ball came to Ramsey in the box and he buried it into the top corner to give Mount Royal an early lead.

In the 25th minute, Cody Cook scored his first goal as the captain of the Cougars off a magnificent set piece. After a step-over by Ramsey, Cook unleashed a bomb into the top right corner of the goal, extending the Cougars' lead to two.

Just seconds after Cook's strike, Jake Vickers got in on the action. Vickers grabbed a loose ball from Cook, stepped around the defender and deposited it into the bottom corner of the goal.

The 3-0 lead stood until the final minute of the half when Kendall Wiens of Lethbridge chested the ball past Kamil Zielinski to cut Mount Royal's halftime lead to 3-1.

Off a corner kick, Cody Cook and Jake Vickers teamed up again to restore Mount Royal's three-goal advantage. Vickers cut to the net and layed a ball into the box. Cook then back-heeled the ball past a diving keeper for the Cougars' fourth goal of the match.

Josh Cameron and Ryan Clancy scored late  in the match to solidify the Cougars' 6-1 victory.

The Cougars improve to 2-1-0 on the season while the Pronghorns drop to 1-1-1.

Lethbridge will travel up Crowchild Trail to play the Calgary Dinos tomorrow evening.

Mount Royal will continue their home stand as the Saskatchewan Huskies come to town for a 6pm start.
