COUGARS GO TO 3-1-0 AFTER WIN OVER PRONGHORNS

Calgary, AB – The Mount Royal Cougars avenged their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon defeating the Lethbridge Pronghorns 3-0 at Cougars Stadium Field. Drake Rendle scored twice and Cody Cook added his first of the season in the Mount Royal victory.

Drake Rendle started things off in the 17th minute when he scored a beauty from distance. The first year standout deked his way around the Pronghorn defenders and ripped a bullet to the top left corner from just outside the box.

Rendle wasn't done yet as he scored his second of the game in the 34th minute. Cody Cook ran down the line on the left and ripped a hard pass into the box. Rendle beat the defender to ball and deflected it in with his outstretched leg. At the half Mount Royal led 2-0.

Lethbridge brought the intensity in the second half but fourth year goalkeeper Kamil Zielinski stood tall in the Cougars' goal.

In the 70th minute Michal Jakuszko made a nifty back pass to Yousaf Nazari deep in Lethbridge territory. Nazari laid a beautiful ball into the box to an oncoming Cody Cook. Cook quickly directed the ball pass the keeper to make the Cougars' lead three.

Mount Royal had two more quality scoring chances but where unable to convert. When the final whistle sounded the Cougars recorded their third win of the season.

The Cougars improve to 3-1-0 with the victory while the Pronghorns drop down to 1-3-0.

Lethbridge will have their bye week next week before resuming play against the Calgary Dinos on Oct. 4.

Mount Royal will hit the road for the first time this season as they travel up to Edmonton to take on MacEwan and Alberta.
