With a comeback 3-1 win over the visiting University of Winnipeg Wesmen, the No. 5 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies clinched first place in the Canada West Men's Soccer Prairie Division.
By clinching first place, Saskatchewan not only will host a conference quarter-final matchup on October 26 but would host the Canada West Final Four should the Huskies win the quarter-final date. It is the first-time in history the Huskies have earned the right to host a Canada West playoff series.
With the win, Saskatchewan remains undefeated on the season at 9-0-1. Winnipeg drops to 2-7-1. A day earlier, the Huskies won 8-0.
Winnipeg started the match with an extra jump and opened the scoring in the 11th minute. A quick by ball by Enrique Garcea was sent to Richie Rundle, who flipped the ball over Huskie keeper Michal Bandula's head and into the net.
The Huskies tied the game on a free kick in the 44th minute by Brett Levis.
Saskatchewan secured the win with a Luigi Bekwayo goal in the 66th minute and a quick snipe by captain Jordian Farahani in the 83rd minute. Levis had assists on both goals.
Joshua Partaker finished the match with six saves for the Wesmen, while Bandula made three for Saskatchewan.
The Huskies travel to Calgary to meet the Mount Royal Cougars next weekend for the final regular season matches, while Winnipeg returns home to host the MacEwan Griffins.
