COUGARS COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP OF MACEWAN

September 15, 2014 Update: This match has been forfeited by Mount Royal due to an ineligible player. This will be reflected as a 1-0 win for MacEwan in the standings.

Calgary – The Cougars finished off their weekend in style, completing a sweep of the visiting MacEwan Griffins. The Griffins hung in tough but the Cougars pulled away in the second half prevailing by a score of 4-1.

Cougar's star forward, Cody Cook, had another huge game putting up three points this afternoon to go with his two from yesterday. On the weekend Cody has scored 3 goals and added 2 assists.

The Cougars opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Cody Cook buried a shot past MacEwan's keeper Adam Hajji. The Griffins answered less than four minutes later when Yousef Nabouisi was able to beat David Thalheimer to tie the game at 1-1.

Before the Griffins could even regroup from their celebration Jonathan Cherkas stormed down the field and let one rip beating Hajji and giving the Cougars the lead once again.

In the second half, Cody Cook again showed off his mastery with the ball. Between setting up teammates and his own scoring chances, it seemed as if Cody was everywhere on the field.

Cook capped his day with two beautiful setups to Kyle Rushton and Connor Duthie to make the final 4-1 for the Cougars.

The Cougars now are in first place in the Canada West Prairie division with a record of 2-0-0. MacEwan sits in a tie for seventh at 0-2-0.

MacEwan will head home next weekend to face a difficult test from the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Cougars will head up to Edmonton to face the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday and Sunday.
