REGINA - The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 7-0 to the Calgary Dinos at The Co-operators Centre on Friday night.

Chris Rauckman led the charge for Calgary with a pair of goals, while Dan Gibb, Dylan Busenius, Logan Fisher, Riley Sheen and Cain Franson also found the net.

Regina drops to 3-20-2 with the result, while Calgary improves to 9-13-3 and overtakes Lethbridge for the sixth and final Canada West playoff spot.

The first period opened with furious action, as Ben Duperreault snuck in on a breakaway just over two minutes in and put a move on Jordan Papirny goaltender, but the Dino netminder stretched out and made a dandy pad save.

The Cougars found themselves shorthanded shortly after, as Brody Luhning and Cody Fowlie took minor penalties just 14 seconds apart. Regina killed off the Calgary five-on-three without much hassle, but the Dinos opened the scoring just a few minutes later. Ryan Gagnon jumped up into a rush and was hooked by a Cougar defender but managed to keep the puck on his stick. Gagnon fed the puck in front on the delayed penalty and Gibb stepped into one, beating Brandon Holtby for his second of the season.

Calgary added to its lead at the 14:41 mark of the first with a three-on-one rush. Franson tried to flip the puck to a Dino streaking up the middle but it was knocked away by Regina, right to Busenius who ripped a wrist shot from the slot. The Dinos scored again 53 seconds later, as Fisher took the puck into the slot and turned and fired one past Holtby.

Rauckman added his fifth of the season before the end of the first, taking a feed from Mitch Cook and putting the punctuation mark on an opening twenty in which the Dinos outshot Regina 17-4.

Rauckman was first to light the lamp in the second period, putting a backhand off the post and in past the glove of Michael Herringer who had come on in relief of Holtby after the first period. Sheen bumped the lead to 6-0 with over seven minutes left in the second and Franson notched his 12th of the year midway through the third.

Holtby made 13 saves in his first home start of the season while Herringer finished with 28. Papirny stopped 20 Cougar shots for the shutout and his sixth win of the season.

The Cougars and Dinos will face off on Saturday afternoon, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
