Winnipeg – The Manitoba Bisons and Regina Cougars were back in men's hockey action Saturday, Jan. 27 afternoon at the Wayne Fleming Arena, less than 24 hours after a 14 goal game that saw the Bisons come out on top Friday night. 

Manitoba brought their offence again on Saturday beating Regina by a score of 7-1, the Herd now on a three game win streak.

The 15 goals scored by the Bisons over the course of the weekend is the most in a weekend series so far this season.  With the home win, Manitoba goes to 14-8-2 on the season. Regina falls to 3-19-2 with the loss.

"It was good to see, this was the first time we had all our forwards available to us in months. We have some very talented players on this team. " Said Bison Head Coach Mike Sirant when asked about his team's huge offense outburst this weekend.

The opening period began with a Bison goal being waved off due to Nick Zajac making contact with Cougar goaltender, Michael Herringer. Twice, the Cougars had odd man chances early but were not able to capitalize. Remi Laurencelle would open the scoring in the game, putting a shot passed the glove of Herringer to give Manitoba the 1-0 just passed the half way mark of the first period. Less than two minutes later, Joel Schreyer would give his team a 2-0 lead. Regina pushed back but was unable to solve Bison goalie Byron Spriggs before the end of the period.

The visitors was able to cut into the 2-0 Bison lead early into the middle frame. Seconds after Spriggs made an unbelievable save with the paddle of his stick; Cougar defenseman Jordan Burns squeaked one under the arm of the Manitoba goalie to cut the lead to 2-1. However, goals from Cameron Nault, Quintin Lisoway and Warren Callis would give the hosts a 5-1 lead heading into the final intermission.

The Cougars replaced Herringer with Brandon Holtby to begin the third period.  Justin Augert and Lucas Skrumeda would pick up two more goals for the Bisons in the final period.

Spriggs finished the game with 26 saves on 27 shots. Herringer and Holtby combined to stop 34 of the 41 shots their team faced on the afternoon.

The Bisons will play host to the Lethbridge Pronghorns next weekend (Feb. 2-3). The Cougars will also be at home next weekend (Feb. 2-3) to play the Calgary Dinos.
