WINNIPEG –  The Calgary Dinos beat the Manitoba Bisons with their aggressive gameplay and strong goaltending in men's hockey at the Wayne Fleming arena on Saturday, Nov. 25. Precision goaltending and assertive third period play is what helped the Dinos defeat Manitoba 4-0.

With the road win, Calgary vaults back into third place in the CW standings with a 7-4-2-1 record while Manitoba falls back to fourth spot with a 7-5-2-0 mark.

Dinos' goalie Jordan Papriny earned his first shutout of the season with a 24 save effort and first star honours.

After a scoreless, but aggressive first two periods filled with penalties against both teams, Calgary forward Chris Collins sniped a shot past the Bisons net in the opening minute of the third period.  

Manitoba Bisons head coach Mike Sirant was disappointed his team didn't take advantage of the power plays they received. 

"It was a game full of missed opportunities, especially on that four-minute high-sticking penalty," says Sirant. 

After the Dinos opened scoring in the third, they continued to dominate the game, with a total of 24 shots against the Bisons net by the end of play.

With 11 minutes left to go in the third, Dinos defenceman Dryden Dow slid a shot past Bisons goalie Byron Spriggs, assisted by teammates Mitch Cook and Robbie Fisher, increasing the Dinos lead to 2-0.  

Three minutes later the visitors struck again, forward Robbie Fisher scoring with an assist from Cook. 

The Bisons had a chance to score on a power play late in the third, but were unable to produce any goals.

After pulling Spriggs from the net in the last minutes of play, Dinos Tim Vanstone was able to take advantage and score an empty netter, assisted by teammate Jared Hauff.  

The game was not without effort from the home side. The highlight of the second period was the performance by Spriggs as he warded eight shots off his net, including a group of tremendous saves with six seconds left in the second period during an in-front-of-the-net scramble.  

With these saves, despite the aggressive and fast-paced play from both teams, Spriggs and Dinos net minder Jordan Papriny held the game at 0-0 through the first two periods. 

The Bisons play next against in British Columbia, against the UBC Thunderbirds at 9 p.m. CT on Friday December 1. Calgary heads to Lethbridge, Alberta next Friday to play the Lethbridge Pronghorns at 7 p.m. CT.
