REGINA - The University of Regina men's hockey team was downed 6-1 by the Manitoba Bisons at The Co-operators Centre on Friday night.

Quintin Lisoway, Kamerin Nault, Warren Callis, Liam Bilton, Adam Henry and Brett Brooks found the net for the Bisons. Zak Zborosky replied for the Cougars as Regina drops to 1-7-1.

The first period was fast-paced but a bit sloppy for both teams, until the Bisons were able to string together an attack and get a couple quick goals before the end of the period. Lisoway's marker opened the scoring as Sean Christiensen fired a shot from the point and the second-year forward was able to deflect it past the glove of Michael Herringer. Manitoba scored again two minutes later, as Nault and Zach Franko worked a two-on-one to perfection for Nault's fourth of the season.

The Bisons added to their lead just 2:05 into the second period, as Callis took a cross-ice feed from Shawn Bowles and raced around a Cougar defender, beating Herringer with a high shot. Bilton's goal was scored at the 7:13 mark on a nice deflection on Lucas Scrumeda's point shot, and Henry capitalized on a perfect pass from Joel Schreyer at 13:05.

Zborosky got the Cougars on the board late in the second frame, scooping up a loose puck in the Bisons end and firing a shot over the shoulder of Byron Spriggs. Brody Luhning picked up his eighth assist of the season on the rookie's fifth goal.

Despite some heavy Cougar pressure and a couple of strong chances from Manitoba, the third period produced no scoring until Brooks' powerplay marker with just 34 seconds to play.

Dawson MacAuley came on in relief of Herringer after Henry's goal and stopped 12 out of 13 shots. Herringer made 21 saves and Spriggs stopped 31 shots for his fifth win of the Canada West campaign.

The Cougars and Bisons (5-4-0) will square off again on Saturday afternoon, with puck drop set for 3 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
