EDMONTON - Despite giving up the game-tying goal with less than two seconds left in regulation, the University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team were able to make amends in overtime, earning a thrilling 3-2 win over the Calgary Dinos Saturday night at Clare Drake Arena. 

Dylan Bredo scored his third goal of the season in overtime, with Brandon Magee and Jason Fram scoring for Alberta in regulation. Rookie Zach Sawchenko was solid on Saturday, making 25 saves for his third win of the season. Cain Franson and Chris Collins scored for Calgary, while Jordan Papirny turned in a stellar performance in the net, making 33 saves in the loss. 

The win was Alberta's sixth this season, as they remain atop the conference standings with a 6-0-0 record. Calgary, meanwhile, suffered their second OT loss of the season, falling to 3-1-2. 

Coming off an offensive outburst the previous night, the Golden Bears picked up right were they left off, firing 14 shots on goal - including numerous scoring chances - in the first, and scoring once. Fram opened the scoring 16 minutes in, finishing off a nice passing play from Jamie Crooks. Papirny was able to come up with a handful of fantastic saves in the first, keeping the Bears at one goal. 

The Bears doubled their lead at the end of the second period, as Magee ripped in his second of the season. Taking the drop pass from Tyson Baillie, Magee took a slap shot from the half-wall, blowing his clapper clean over Papirny's shoulder into the top left corner. 

Calgary thought they had their first of the night in the second, but their scramble goal in the Alberta crease was called off due to a hand pass. 

The Dinos started playing with some urgency in the third period, controlling the puck for long stretches in the Alberta zone. That possession finally paid off with four minutes left, as Franson cut the Alberta lead to one. Bears captain Riley Kieser was called for hooking with 24 seconds left, and coupled with the empty Calgary net, gave Calgary a six-on-four advantage needing the tying goal in the final seconds. Collins was able to even the game, unbelievably tipping in the Cain Franson point shot with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. 

It didn't take much overtime for the game to be decided, however, as Bredo raced in on a three-on-one advantage, ripping in a short-side shot over Papirny. 

The Golden Bears will now head on the road for their first full series away from Clare Drake Arena, as they visit the Regina Cougars. The Dinos will also head on the road, as they visit the Saskatchewan Huskies. All four games next weekend will be available on Canada West TV.
