Golden Bears’ Jordan Hickmott Named WHL Grad of the Month (October)

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC - The Canada West Universities Athletic Association announced University of Alberta Golden Bears and Edmonton Oil Kings right wing Jordan Hickmott as the October 2014 Canada West WHL Graduate of the Month.

 

Hickmott scored 12 goals and six assists in nine games from September 26 through October 31, helping lead the #1 ranked Golden Bears to a perfect 9-0-0 record and first place in the conference standings.

 

During preseason, Hickmott also netted three goals in Alberta's two non-conference road victories at Yale on October 24 and at Dartmouth on October 25, including the game-winner against the Bulldogs.

 

The fourth-year Physical Education & Recreation major currently sits second in CIS scoring and leads the nation in goals, while leading the Canada West Hockey in scoring, points per game (5), plus/minus rating (+12), shots (37) and hat tricks (1).  He ranks among the conference leaders in short-handed goals (second with 1) and short-handed assists (third with 1).

 

The standout from Mission, BC scored points in all nine games during October and registered four multiple point games, including three consecutive from October 3-10.

 

The highlight game of the month for Hickmott was when he scored a single-game career-high four goals, including the game-winner, in Alberta's 10-0 win versus Lethbridge on October 3.

 

Overall this, season he has scored 15 goals and nine assists in 17 games.

 

Other nominees for the month were Mount Royal Cougars centre Tyler Fiddler and Calgary Dinos goaltender Kris Lazaruk.

 

Canada West Universities Athletic Association and the Western Hockey League have partnered for 25 years to recognize outstanding athletic achievement and assist in educational development of men's hockey players who represent the full student-athlete experience within Canada West.

The WHL Graduate of the Month award is voted on by all Canada West men's hockey coaches. Each monthly winner receives a $500 cheque towards the cost of education, a plaque, a letter from WHL Commissioner Ron Robison and a computer bag.
