MBB: T-Birds overpower Wesmen Friday Night

The #7 ranked UBC Thunderbirds proved to be too much for the hometown Winnipeg Wesmen as they rolled to an 80-67 victory.

The Wesmen Came out early and staked a lead for much of the first quarter before the T-Birds made a late run, highlighted by Anthony Mnish 3 pointer as time ran down that gave the visitors a 7 point lead after one quarter. The second quarter saw the teams stay tight before the Birds stretched it out late to lead 39-26 at the half. In the second half, the Wesmen made a run midway through the third before the T-Birds once took control of the game and then cruised to the 16 point win.

Denzel Lynch-Blair and Narcisse Ambanza both had 13 and Billy Yaworsky added 12 in a losing cause for Winnipeg.

Conor Morgan led the Birds with game highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds. Phil Jalalpoor and Patrick Simon were also both in double figures with 14 and 11 respectively for UBC.

The two teams will face off again Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre with a 7 pm CST tipoff.
