Fourth Quarter Surge Lift Wesmen To Victory Over Huskies

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen used a 13-0 run late in the fourth quarter to propel them to a 102-93 victory over the University of Regina Cougars Friday evening at the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium Friday evening in Winnipeg.

The Cougars led 87-81 with over 4:00 minutes to play when the Wesmen found another gear, scoring 13 unanswered points to put them ahead 94-87 with 1:20 remaining in the contest. Winnipeg drained their free throws in the final minute to close out the victory.

Sean Tarver led the Wesmen with 21 points, including three-three pointers. Denzel Lynch Blair added 18 points. Jamar Farley finished with 16 followed by Ryan Oirbans whho completed the game with 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.Narcisse Ambanza and Marcello Kambola also scored in double digits with 13 and 11.

Brian Ofori led the Cougars with a game high 25 points. Alex Igual and Brandon Tull each scored 21, with three-three pointers each. Travis Sylvestre added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Winnipeg fell behind 16-5 early in the first quarter but made a late surge to trail 26-20 after the opening quarter of play.

A Ryan Oirbans dunk with 5:50 left in the second quarter gave the Wesmen their first lead at 32-31. The Cougars came back with a late run to take a 50-45 lead into the halftime break.

Winnipeg outscored the Cougars 25-22 in the third quarter to trail 72-70 heading into the fourth quarter. The Wesmen closed out the contest outscoring the Cougars 32-21 in the final frame.

Winnipeg (11-6) and Regina (7-10) will wrap up their weekend series Saturday night with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
