Bobcats collect back-to-back wins over Cougars

BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats' offence came alive again, putting up 95 points for the second straight night to earn the weekend sweep with a 95-85 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday.

The first half was close, but the Bobcats managed a 10-0 run early in the second half to take a 48-33 lead at which point Regina called a timeout.

Brandon extended their led to 20 in the third quarter, but Regina managed a run of their own reducing the deficit to eight points at 61-53.

Regina picked up four fouls in the first minute of the fourth quarter, effectively sealing it as Brandon went to the free-throw line 19 times in the fourth.

Four Bobcats finished in double-digit scoring. Earl Thompson Jr had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyvon Cooper had 25 points as well. Chris Stanhope had 15 points and John Paul added 13 points and 11 boards.

Five Cougars finished in double-figures, as Brandon Tull had a team-high 22 points. Carter Millar finished with 15 points, Travis Sylvestre had 14, and Alex Igual and Johneil Johnson had 12 and 10 points respectively.

The win gives Brandon a record of 7-9, while Regina moves to 6-8.

Both teams have critical match-ups next weekend, as Regina welcomes the #5 nationally ranked Calgary Dinos, and the Bobcats will take on the #3 nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.
