REGINA, Sask. – The Manitoba Bisons went on a run late in the first half and cruised to a 93-81 win over the University of Regina on Friday night in Canada West men's basketball action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The two teams traded leads nine times in the first half, but Manitoba set the tone for the rest of the game by closing out the second quarter with nine consecutive points including a Justus Alleyn triple at the buzzer that gave the Bisons a 41-31 halftime lead.

That momentum continued in the third quarter for Manitoba, with the visitors reeling off a 15-3 run to go up by 21 midway through the period. Regina did manage to score nine straight points in the fourth to get to within 10 with just under seven minutes remaining, but Manitoba responded with a 14-4 run over the next two and a half minutes to seal the win.

Five different Manitoba players scored in double figures in the win, including Alleyn with a game-high 21 points. Ilarion Bonhomme finished agonizingly close to a rare triple-double, scoring 12 points but also ending up with nine rebounds and nine assists. A.J. Basi tied Alleyn for the game lead with five triples and scored 19 points while Joey Nitychoruk and James Wagner both came off the bench to score 11 and 10 points, respectively. Those two combined to shoot 10-for-12 from the field, with Wagner hitting all five of his field goal attempts.

Manitoba's hot shooting was the difference in the win, as the Bisons shot 52.5% from the field including a sizzling 12-for-24 from the three-point arc.

Brandon Tull led the Cougars with 16 points. Alex Igual added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Aaron McGowan had 12 points and eight assists and Johneil Johnson added 12 points.

The Cougars (6-5) will look to salvage a weekend split on Saturday night. Game time for the rematch against the Bisons is again scheduled for 8 p.m. at the CKHS.
