Wesmen Down Spartans In Convincing Fashion

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Trinity Western University Spartans in convincing fashion 111-65 Friday night at the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg (7-4) had every player on the game roster scoring at least three points. Marcello Kambola led the team with 16 points. including four-three pointers. Nathaniel Johnson and Ryan Oirbans finished with 13. Oirbans completed the double-double hauling down 11 rebounds. Billy Yaworsky added 12 while Sean Tarver finished with 11.

Pogos Trunyan led the Spartans (2-9) with a game high 18 points (including four-three pointers). Max Viitala was next with 16.

Winnipeg had the game in their hands in the first quarter, opening up a 32-9 lead and outscored the Spartans 32-14 in the second frame to lead 64-23 at the halftime break.

The Wesmen went to their bench for the good majority of the second half, outscoring the Spartans 47-42 to close out the 111-65 victory.

The Wesmen finished the contest connecting on 52% from the field. Winnipeg was deadly from three-point range connecting for 13 three pointers. Winnipeg had the margin in rebounding 38-25.

The two teams will meet Saturday evening to wrap up the weekend series. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
