Pronghorns Edge Wesmen To Split Weekend Series

The Winnipeg Wesmen were outscored by 13 points after the first quarter and watched an early double-digit edge turn into their first home loss of the Canada West season Saturday night.

The Wesmen held a 24-14 lead after 10 minutes, but struggled offensively the rest of the way in dropping a 78-75 decision to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The loss pulled the Pronghorns back to even with Winnipeg in the conference standings, both with identical 4-2 records.

The Wesmen led by as many as 14 points in the first quarter.

Sean Tarver and Marcello Kambola were both sparks off the bench for the Wesmen, with Tarver notching a team-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Kambola hit four threes and finished with 12 points.

Billy Yaworsky and Denzel Lynch-Blair both added 10 points, with Lynch-Blair also chipping in five assists, four rebounds and four steals.

The Wesmen were outrebounded 30-28 and committed 18 turnovers, but the U of W bench outscored Lethbridge's reserves 35-5.

Still, the 'Horns got a game-high 25 points from Elliott Sentance and another 23 from Zac Overwater.

The Wesmen will remain in the province for their final four games of the first semester, starting with a Thursday-Friday home-and-home with Brandon next week.
