VICTORIA – The reigning Canada West champion and No. 4 ranked team in the nation stormed onto the court at the CARSA Performance Gym and walked away with a 101-75 win over the UVic Vikes on November 11.
 
"The thing that hurt us the most is that we lost a lot of confidence in ourselves early in the game," said Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp. "Their pressure disrupted us and once we lost confidence everything kind of went sideways after that."

Wayne Tucker Jr. scored 11 points in the first quarter and 19 in the game to lead the Vikes, while first-year Vike Scott Kellum put up 18.
 
Last season's Canada West MVP led the way for Calgary. Thomas Cooper scored 30 points on four-for-seven shooting from beyond the three-point line.
 
At the start of the game the Vikes looked more than equal to the task of taking on the Dinos. Shooting 53 per cent from the field UVic went shot-for-shot with Calgary and the teams were tied 22-22 after the first quarter.
 
The second quarter is where the Dinos pulled away.
 
34 points in the frame gave Calgary a 56-37 lead at the half.
 
"We had too many turnovers early on, especially in the second quarter, that resulted in a lot of easy baskets for them," said Beaucamp. "We have to limit how many easy baskets we let them have."
 
While Victoria battled back to only be outscored by five points the rest of the way, the damage had already been done and the Dinos walked away with a 101-75 victory.

"We have to be better in every area, but the biggest thing is we have to believe, have confidence in ourselves and not lose that confidence too easily," said Beaucamp.
 
These same two teams are back in action November 12 at 7:00 p.m. for the second game of their weekend double-header.
