Thunderbirds use balanced attack to beat Bobcats

BRANDON - The seventh-ranked UBC Thunderbirds took out the Brandon Bobcats 85-67 in Canada West men's basketball action on Friday night at the Healthy Living Centre.
 
The Bobcats trailed 22-18 at the end of the first quarter and their deficit was 42-34 at the break.
 
UBC took control to start the third quarter with an early 11-5 run to extend their lead to 14 and the T-Birds maintained the majority of the momentum going into the fourth quarter with a 62-49 advantage.
 
The Thunderbirds carried over that confidence into the fourth quarter to seal up their third straight conference victory.
 
UBC's balanced offensive attack played a big part in their road win with five players reaching double digits with David Wagner leading the way with a team-high 18 points.
 
Jordan Jensen-Whyte was next with 17 points, while fellow T-Birds Conor Morgan and A.J. Holloway both added 13 points apiece and Phil Jalalpoor rounded out the scoring with 12 points.
 
Chris Stanhope had a strong showing in a losing cause for the Bobcats with a game-high 20 points.
 
D.J. Jordan added 15 points and Earl Thompson Jr. scored 14 points as Brandon fell to 1-and-16.

The Bobcats and T-Birds are back at it on Saturday with the rematch set for a 7 p.m. (CST) start.
