Pryce, Lynch-Blair Lead Wesmen To Victory Over Huskies

Jelane Pryce and Denzel Lynch-Blair combined for 56 points to lead the University of Winnipeg Wesmen to an 81-72 victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg.

Pryce scored a game high 29 points while Lynch-Blair was right behind finishing with 27 points, including three-three pointers.

Winnipeg with the win extends their winning streak to six and improves their record to 9-5. Saskatchewan with the loss falls back to 4-10.

Pryce finished the game with a double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds. First year guard William Sesay led the team with 11 rebounds. Lynch-Blair also finished with six assists and five steals.

Shawn Lathan led the Huskies with 19 points, including going four-of-eight from three point territory. Evan Ostertag added 14 points. Mack Burns led Saskatchewan in rebounds with 15.

Saskatchewan had the early advantage in the first quarter building an 18-9 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Winnipeg's offensive display was in full force in the second quarter as the Wesmen outscored the Huskies 27-18 to go into the halftime break all even at 36-36.

After the halftime break Saskatchewan regained the lead outscoring Winnipeg 27-23 in the third quarter to take a slim 63-59 lead into the fourth quarter.

Winnipeg dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 22 points and was strong on the defensive end limiting the Huskies to nine points to make the final tally 81-72.

The Wesmen will open up a home and home series against Manitoba next Friday at the U of M. The scene shifts to the Duckworth Centre on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Saskatchewan will host the Brandon Bobcats next Friday and Saturday.
