Wesmen Beat Brandon To Complete Home And Home Series

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Basketball team completed a home and home series sweep over the Brandon Bobcats after posting a convincing 80-59 victory Saturday afternoon in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg (5-5) beat Brandon (0-8) 83-72 in the series opener Thursday night in Brandon.

Four Wesmen starters scored in double digits led by Denzel Lynch-Blair's game high 19 points. Jelane Pryce added 17. Will Sesay finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Jamar Farley added 11 points. Ryan Oirbans had nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Earl Thompson Jr. led Brandon with 11 points. D.J. Jordan had nine points and a team high eight rebounds.

After a close opening quarter which had the Bobcats leading 21-20, Winnipeg exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Brandon 28-12 to take a 48-33 lead into the halftime break.

Winnipeg drained five-three pointers in the opening half and went 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

Brandon's struggles continued in the second half. The Bobcats connected on 9-of-34 (26%) from the field while scoring 26 points in the final 20 minutes. Winnipeg continued to put the pressure on the visitors outscoring Brandon 32-26 to close out the 80-59 victory.

Winnipeg will have the bye next week and will resume play on January 22 hosting the Victoria Vikes. Brandon will be at home next weekend against the Calgary Dinos.
