The University of Winnipeg Wesmen men's basketball team dominated from start to finish in a 90-48 victory over the Trinity Western University Spartans Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg's decisive victory comes on the heels of an 85-68 win in the series opener Friday night.
The Wesmen reach the .500 level with a record of 3-3. Trinity Western remains winless at 0-6.
Fifth year forward Jelane Pryce led the Wesmen with 16 points. Fourth year guard Jamar Farley added 14 points, with four-three pointers and a team high six rebounds. Denzel Lynch-Blair finished with 12.
Fifth year wing Kelvin Smith led the Spartans with 12 points and seven rebounds. Matt Blackaby finished with eight points.
A hot shooting Wesmen team put up 27 points in the opening quarter while holding the Spartans to a paltry eight points. Winnipeg continued their pin point shooting in the second quarter, outscoring the Spartans 25-16 to take a 52-24 lead into the halftime break.
Winnipeg connected on 18-of-30 (60%) from the field in the opening half while the Spartans struggled connecting on only e8-of-31 (26%).
The Wesmen went to their bench for most of the second half, with every player seeing the court for valuable minutes. Winnipeg outscored the Spartans 38-24 in the second half to close out the 90-48 victory.
Winnipeg will have the bye next weekend and will be in action on Dec 4-5 on the road in Regina against the Cougars. Trinity Western will host the Saskatchewan Huskies this coming Thursday and Friday.
