Streaking Cascades beat Griffins to improve to 8-0

The University of the Fraser Valley men's basketball team thumped the MacEwan Griffins 95-73 on Saturday evening to head into the Christmas break undefeated.

Nate Brown led the offensive assault, racking up a season-high 27 points, and Jasper Moedt chipped in with 18 points and 16 rebounds as the Cascades improved to 8-0 on the season. They're the last unbeaten team in Canada West, and they have a four-game lead in the Explorers Division.

Denzel James scored 18 points and Lee Danderfer notched 17 for the Griffins, who fell to 3-5 and are tied for fourth in the Explorers Division with UNBC.

"I thought today's performance was better than yesterday's," said Cascades head coach Adam Friesen, whose team was coming off an 83-73 win over MacEwan on Friday. "We're happy to get two wins, and going into the Christmas break 8-0 is a good place to be."

The victory extended the CIS No. 10-ranked Cascades' regular-season unbeaten streak to 22 games dating back to last season, and they're the only program in Canada West that can boast they haven't lost a regular-season game in the 2014 calendar year.
