Tull, Tull, Tallman power Cougars to 102-82 win over Brandon

Jonathan Tull scored a team-high 22 points and younger brother Brandon Tull added 20 as the University of Regina's men's basketball team took a 102-82 win over Brandon on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Will Tallman also got into the act offensively for the Cougars, adding 19 points and pulling down a team-leading seven rebounds to help the U of R win its second consecutive Canada West game and improve to 4-5 on the season.

The two teams looked like they'd be trading shots all night long after an entertaining first half that saw six lead changes and a 49-49 tie at the break after a Tallman triple at the buzzer, but the Cougars exploded in the third quarter.

Brandon actually started out with the first six points of the third, though it was all Cougars from there. The home side put together a massive 18-0 run over a four-minute span in the third, turning what had been a six-point deficit into the first double-digit lead of the game for either team. Brandon cut the lead down to seven points twice in the fourth quarter, but triples by Jonathan Tull and Brandon Tull on consecutive possessions down the stretch got the lead back up to 15 and essentially put the game out of reach.

D.J. Jordan led Brandon with 22 points, six of which came on three thunderous dunks including two on back-to-back possessions in the second quarter. Earl Thompson, Jr. had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Bobcats, while Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak scored 17 and Kenonte Ramsey finished with 14.

All five starters got into double figures for the Cougars, with Matthew Augustine and Travis Sylvestre both ending up with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists. The Cougars shot 58% from the field in the win and enjoyed a 41-32 advantage on the glass.

The Cougars and Brandon (1-8) will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS in the back end of the weekend set. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
