SASKATCHEWAN USES FIRST HALF THREE-BARRAGE IN WIN OVER VIKES

Using 14 three-pointers in the first half, the No. 9 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies completed a sweep of the No. 7 ranked University of Victoria Vikes with a 95-70 win Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

Fifth-year Dadrian Collins led the three-barrage hitting seven of the 14 shots from beyond the arc for the Huskies in the two quarters. Collins was 7-for-7 on three-point shots and added two foul shots to score 23 of his 28 points in the game in the first half.

The Huskies shot 57% in the first half and 64% from the three-point arc.

With the strong first half, Saskatchewan had a 56-30 lead at halftime. Victoria recovered in the second half finding the basket more frequently and even outscored the Huskies in the third quarter 22-20. But the Vikes couldn't overcome the Huskies big first half lead. 

Saskatchewan finished the game shooting at 60%, while the Vikes shot at 40%. 

Three more Huskies joined Collins with double-digits on the night. Matthew Forbes scored 18 for Saskatchewan, while Mike Scott added another 15 and Evan Ostertag 14. Ben Baker led the Huskies on the boards with eight rebounds. He also added 11 assists in the game.

Chris McLaughlin led Victoria in the loss recording a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Leonard-Smith scored another 10 for Victoria.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 4-2 in the young Canada West men's basketball season. Victoria also sits at 4-2 after the weekend sweep. A night earlier, the Huskies won 71-68.

The Huskies travel to Vancouver to meet the UBC Thunderbirds to close out the first half of the season, while Victoria returns home to host the Alberta Golden Bears
