Dinos Open Weekend Series With Win Over Wesmen

The visiting University of Calgary Dinos opened up a weekend series in Winnipeg with a 77-64 victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Friday night in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium.

Fifth year guard and Winnipeg native Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson led the Dinos (1-0) with 15 points and nine assists. Fourth year forward Matt Letkeman had a double-double consisting of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Dallas Karch also figured in double digits scoring 10 points.

Winnipeg (0-1) was led by fifth year guard Travis Krahn's game high 18 points. Fellow fifth year Mark McNee added 15 points and a team high eight rebounds. Christopher Baxter had 10 points to go along five assists.

Calgary had the early advantage leading 18-13 after the opening quarter. The hot shooting Dinos continued to score baskets when they needed to and after a close second quarter Calgary went into the halftime break leading by a score of 37-30.

The Dinos were 14-of-25 (56%) from the field in the opening half and were a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

After the break Winnipeg was able to cut into the Calgary lead early on but the Dinos came back in the final couple of minutes to maintain their lead at 55-48 after three quarters.

Calgary once again put on another hot shooting display in the fourth outscoring the Wesmen 22-16 to make the final score 77-64.

The Dinos connected on 55% from the field and were 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the contest. Winnipeg connected on 44% from the field but struggled at the line going 10-of-19.

The teams will wrap up their regular season opening series on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
