The Manitoba Bisons are now at three wins in a row with a win against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 91-80 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre on Sunday.

Xavier Smith put 27 points up for the Bisons in this game. Kevin Oliver sored 26 points.

WolfPack player Kevin Priblisky scored the most points for his team with two three-pointers and five baskets.

Manitoba is in the two spot of the Prairie Division and Thompson Rivers sits at fifth in the Pacific Division. 

The last game the Bisons will play in the first half of the 2013-2013 season is Wednesday, December 5th at 8 p.m. They will tip-off against the Winnipeg Wesmen in the 22nd annual Duckworth Challenge at the Duckworth Centre.

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Wesmen kept their undefeated home streak alive with a 58-51 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat on Sunday afternoon.

Winnipeg with the victory improves to 7-3, including a perfect 5-0 on home court. The Wesmen sit alone in second place in the Prairie Division of the Canada West Conference. UBC Okanagan with the loss falls to 1-9.

Steven Wesley led Winnipeg with a game high 20 points and eight rebounds. Samuel Hattin added nine points draining three-three pointers. Andrew Cunningham dished out 12 assists in the win.

The Heat were led by Mitch Goodwin's 14 points and seven rebounds. Greet Gill added 12 and Anwar Faza finished with 11.

Winnipeg will take on the Manitoba Bisons on Wednesday night in the 22nd Annual Duckworth Challenge. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre. UBC Okanagan will next see action on January 5th against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

Pronghorns-Thunderbirds Stats

VANCOUVER – A massive performance from third-year transfer Brylle Kamen led the UBC Thunderbirds to a 96-84 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night at War Memorial Gym, giving UBC coach Kevin Hanson his 200th conference win.

Kamen scored a season-high 26 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. Julian Spear Chief-Morris and Alex Fletcher each had 17 points to lead Lethbridge.

The win means UBC will have the Pacific Division lead heading into the break. They are 8-2 on the year, while the Pronghorns fall to 5-5.

Conference play resumes on Jan. 11 for the T-Birds, and their next home series goes Jan. 18 and 19 when Brandon and Regina come to town. Lethbridge will come back to BC on the weekend of Jan. 11-12 with games at Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan.

VICTORIA – The Victoria Vikes defeated the Calgary Dinos on Saturday, 72-68.
 
UVic's Terrell Evans led in scoring for the second-straight night, with 13 points, and added six rebounds. Michael Acheampong added 12 points for the VIkes.
 
For the visitors, Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson had the hot hands of the night with 20 points, five assists and three treys. First-year guard Jasdeep Gillchipped in for 14 points.
 
The win gives the Vikes a 7-3 record entering the Christmas break, while the Dinos drop to 4-6.

UVic ist at Winnipeg and Manitoba, January 11-12, while Calgary visits UBC Okanagan at Thompson Rivers the same two days.

REGINA – CIS #6 Fraser Valley took an 82-68 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
 
The victory improves the Cascades' conference record to 7-3 as they remain tied with Victoria for second place in the Pacific Division standings. Regina falls to 3-7 with the loss.
 
Kevon Parchment led Fraser Valley with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Kyle Grewal also collected a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards.
 
Frank Brown had 15 points for the Cougars, while Darius Mole collected 14 and Paul Gareau had 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Connor Burns also had 10 rebounds for the U of R.
 
Both teams will return to the Canada West schedule in early January.

#7 Alberta 81 Mount Royal 70

CALGARY - In their first-ever meeting in Canada West men`s basketball, it was the #7 Alberta Golden Bears earning the win, 81-70 over the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday.

Jordan Baker was impressive, scoring 26 points on, 10-of-15 shooting as Alberta secured its sixth straight victory, moving them to a Prairie Division-best 9-1. For Mount Royal their struggles continue, having now dropped five in a row and moving  to 2-8 through the opening 10 games.

Kenneth Otieno pitched in with 18 points and five rebounds for the Golden Bears, while Nick Loewen totalled 15 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.

With the first-half of the season wrapped up both teams will get a month of rest before the season resumes in January. Alberta opens the second-half in Langley and Abbotsford, B.C. taking on the Spartans and Cascades, respectively, while MRU will head east to face the Brandon Bobcats and Regina Cougars.

UNBC 93 #9 Saskatchewan 90

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The UNBC Timberwolves defeated the #9 Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday at the Northern Sport Centre (NSC). The Timberwolves improve to 5-5 after a 93-90 victory over the now 6-4 Huskies.

The Timberwolves were led by Jose Araujo, who racked up 33 points. The Timberwolves guard scored 23 points in the second half alone. Francis Rowe added 14.

Stephon Lamar netted 34 points for Saskatchewan, while Matthew Forbes put up 20.

The Huskies return to regular season play January 18-19 with two home games. The Huskies will host UBC Okanagan on Thursday and Thompson Rivers University on Saturday.

The UNBC Timberwolves will continue their league play against Winnipeg on January 17, followed by Manitoba on January 19.

BRANDON - Fans at Brandon University's Healhty Living Centre were treated to a fast-paced basketball game Saturday, night but the home team wasn't able to come away with the win despite leading most of the game. The Trinity Western Spartans battled back late in the fourth quarter before coming away with a 75-73 win, after Brandon's Michael Smith missed a buzzer-beater three-point attempt at the end of the game.
 
Justing Bakuteka led all scorers, with 25 points for the winning side. Mark Perrin finished with a double-double, putting up 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
 
Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak and Jordan Reaves both finished with double-doubles, Benabdelhak led the Bobcats with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Reaves put up 17 points and 10 boards.
 
The win improves Trinity Western's record to 3-7 while the Bobcats fall to 2-8.

The two teams now enter the holiday break. Up next for the Spartans is a home-game against the Alberta Golden Bears on January 11. Brandon hosts Mounnt Royal and UNBC, January 11-12.

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Bisons defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat 79-68 on Saturday at the IGAC.
 
With the win, the Bisons improve to 6-3, and UBC Okanagan drops to 1-8.

Xavier Smith had 16 points for Manitoba, followed by Yigit Ozsayiner with 13 points and 14 boards. For the visiting Heat, Anwar Faza had 18 points, while Mitch Goodwin put back 15.
 
The Bisons play one more game in the second half on Sunday afternoon at the Investors Group Athletic Centre, against and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. The Heat are in winnipeg on Sunday.

WINNIPEG - The starting unit for the Winnipeg Wesmen played a big role in leading the team to a decisive 90-68 victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Saturday afternoon at the Duckworth Centre.

Winnipeg improves its record to 6-3; the WolfPack fall to 4-5.

Winnipeg guard Travis Krahn scored a game-high 23 points. Krahn was on fire from three-point territory draining seven of eight attempts. Benny Iko continued his strong play, scoring 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Steven Wesley added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Blaz Bozinovic led Thompson Rivers with 16 points and nine rebounds. Brett Roualt added 10 points.

Winnipeg will close out their weekend play on Sunday afternoon against the UBC Okanagan Heat at 3:00 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre. The WolfPack will play the Manitoba Bisons.
