VICTORIA – The Victoria Vikes defeated the Regina Cougars 79-55 on Friday at McKinnon Gym.

The Vikes improve to an 8-5 record, while the Cougars drop to 5-8.
 
Fourth-year Terrell Evans impressed the home crowd with 26 points and seven rebounds. Rookie guard Kyle Peterson put up some long-range shots to finish the night with 12 points.
 
The visitors were led by senior forward Paul Gareau, who totalled 21 points and eight rebounds. A gritty game from six-foot-eight Connor Burns left him with 12 points and seven rebounds.  

The 8-5 Vikes will now turn around to host the Brandon Bobcats (3-9), while the Cougars will trek to the mainland to face the #2 UBC Thunderbirds (10-2). Both games will take place at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live at http://canadawest.tv.

VANCOUVER -  On Friday night, the UBC Thunderbirds beat the Brandon Bobcats 90-75 in a game that was much closer than the score would indicate.

The host T-Birds got 18 points from O'Brian Wallace, while Jordan Reaves paced the Bobcats with 18 as well.

Brandon's Ilarion Bonhomme finished with 12 points, four rebounds and five assists.
 
UBC will host Regina on Saturday at the War Memorial Gym. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.  Brandon will travel across the Strait of Georgia to face Victoria at McKinnon Gym on Saturday.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Pronghorns lost 96-72 to the Trinity Western Spartans.

Mark Perrin was electric for the Spartans, notching 33 points on 12-18 shooting, including seven from beyond the arc, and also pulled down 11 boards.  Forward Denny McDonald supported his effort with 17 points.  Fourth-year guard Morgan Duce led the ‘Horns with 20 points and post Derek Waldner logged his third straight double-double and 21st of his career with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

With the loss, the ‘Horns fall to 6-7, but will try to rally on Saturday against the Fraser Valley Cascades at 8 p.m.  The 5-8 Spartans will face the Calgary Dinos at the Jack Simpson Gym. Both games will be webcast at canadawest.tv.

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos notched a big win Friday night, hanging on to emerge with an 88-84 victory over the #7 Fraser Valley Cascades on Friday night in the Jack Simpson Gym.

The Dinos were led by another big night from Thijin Moses, who earned his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. For Fraser Valley, the loss overshadows the best scoring performance in the conference this season – Sam Freeman played every minute of the game and scored 41 points – nearly half his team’s total.

The win improves Calgary’s record to 6-7 and keeps their playoff hopes alive tied for fifth in the Prairie Division, while Fraser Valley falls to 7-6 and into third place in the Pacific Division.

Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson played 39 minutes an put in 20 points for the Dinos. Kevon Parchment and Kendall chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively, for the Cascades.

Fraser Valley heads south to face the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday night, while the Dinos play host to the Trinity Western Spartans. Tip-off goes at 7 p.m. in the Jack Simpson Gym.

EDMONTON - Getting an early lead and keeping the road team from climbing back into the game, the #5 Alberta Golden Bears took a decisive 74-55 win over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, Friday night at Saville Community Sports Centre.

Third-year guard Kenneth Otieno continued his current hot streak, netting a game-high 15 points to go with six boards while fourth-year guard Tommy Watson added 13 points for the now 11-2 Bears.

Sophomore point guard Zach Usherwood led the visitors with 10 points, the WolfPack dropping to 6-8 on the season.

Thompson Rivers now heads to Saskatchewan to square off against the Huskies in their second game of the weekend; the Golden Bears prepare to host the UBC Okanagan Heat at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Heat-Huskies Stats

SASKATOON - With a lopsided 91-64 victory over the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat on Friday night at the PAC, the Saskatchewan Huskies extended their winning streak to three games.

With the win, the Huskies move to 9-4 on the season, while the Heat drop to 2-12.

Four Huskies recorded double-digits in the game. Matthew Forbes led the group scoring 19 points, followed by Andrew Henry, who hit four three-pointers in the game, at 18.

Landry Ndayitwayeko led the Heat on the night with 14 points, while Dave Mackay and Azi Fahandeg-Sadi each added 13 in the game.  Fahandeg-Sadi and Anwar Faza led the Heat on the boards with four rebounds each.

The Huskies face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Saturday night at the PAC, while the Heat travel to Edmonton to face the Alberta Golden Bears.

Wesmen-Timberwolves Stats

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - Benny Iko led the Winnipeg Wesmen to their 10th conference win, against the UNBC Timberwolves on Thursday as Iko netted 26 points in the Wesmen's 91-83 road victory.

The Wesmen, now 10-4, were able to control the flow of the game and pull away from the Timberwolves, 5-8, in the last quarter.

For the Wesmen, Travis Krahn added an additional 19 points and Andrew Cunningham 17.

Leading scorers for the Timberwolves were Cagrles Barton with 17 and Sam Raphael,with 15.

The Timberwolves will host the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday at the Northern Sport Centre. The Winnipeg Wesmen will travel to Calgary to take on the Mount Royal Cougars.

CALGARY
- The Manitoba Bisons ran up-and-down Kenyon Court on Thursday and rang up a 97-85 Canada West victory over the Mount Royal Cougars.

Jonah Huertas led Manitoba with 25 points, sparked by his 5-9 effort from behind the three-point line. The Bisons improve to 9-5 and are two points back of conference leader University of Alberta, which has two games in hand.

The Cougars were led by Awet Abraha’s 18 points. Mount Royal is now 3-10.

Walton finished with 17 points and eight assists. His speed at the point-guard spot was a difference maker. Davidson Joseph chipped in with 12 and Yigit Ozayiner 11.

The Cougars also got 14 points from Nick Loewen and 13 from Aloysius Callaghan.

The Cougars are next in action Saturday when they host the Winnipeg Wesmen at 7 p.m. The Bisons continue their road trip, heading UNBC to face another fellow CIS newcomer in the Timberwolves.
