LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 3 Saskatchewan Huskies came to play in the second half against No. 4 ranked Trinity Western, erasing a 13-point halftime deficit to earn a weekend split on the road with a 101-93 win Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

The Huskies held TWU star Jacob Doerksen to just eight points in the second half, with Saskatchewan’s Rejean Chabot, 35 points, and Jamelle Barrett, 31, leading the charge.

The loss for TWU, which snapped the Spartans 15-game winning streak, drops its record to 17-3 on the year while Saskatchewan improves to 14-3 with the victory.

Jacob Doerksen was hot all first half as he had 21 points in the first 20 minutes and 10 rebounds, both of which were half-high efforts.

The Spartans next action sees them play host to Brandon next weekend, while Saskatchewan returns home to host Alberta.

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The Regina Cougars defeated the Fraser Valley Cascades 87-83 in a nail-biter at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The loss drops the Cascades regular season record to 6-12 and leaves them tied with the Calgary Dinos for the 8th and final playoff berth.  Regina sits in fifth at 12-6.
  
Gray and Freeman each scored 18 points to lead UFV.  Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC added 16 points and Josh Kufske, Abbotsford, BC chipped in with 13 points.  Friesen pulled down 9 total rebounds as UFV recorded 34 boards for the game. 
 
In the thick of the playoff race, UFV will now travel to Winnipeg and Lethbridge over the next weekends before closing out the 2010-11 Canada West regular season, at home, against Brandon the weekend of February 18 and 19.

Vikes-Bobcats Stats

BRANDON, MB - It was a different night Saturday, but the results were very similar to Friday. The Brandon Bobcats took an early lead over the Victoria Vikes, and carried it into the second half, but couldn't hold on as the Vikes came from behind to win 79-66.
 
Despite out-rebounding the Vikes and blocking more shots (including three by Isaiah James) the Bobcats were beat down the stretch, which drops the Bobcats record to 4-14. The win improves Victoria's record to 13-7 and extends the Vikes winning streak to six games.
 
Ryan Mackinnon had a team-high for the second night in a row, finishing with 23 points. Mike Berg and Wendell Thomas both finished one rebound short of a double-double, Berg finishing with 15 points and 10 from Thomas.
 
O'Brian Wallace led the Bobcats with 17 points and also finished with a team-high eight rebounds.  Kyle Vince contributed 11 points.
 
Next week the Vikes travel to Kamloops, BC to take on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack and the Bobcats travel to Langley, BC to take on the #4 Trinity Western Spartans.

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Bisons evened their record at 9-9 this conference season with a 96-81 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

The Bisons were led by Josh Ogden, who had 19 points, while Richard Reimer and Eric Garcia would tie at 14 points. Three other Bisons would score in double digits as well, with Kevin Oliver and Sean Maxwell adding 12 points each, and Braedon Speer had 10 points.

The game’s leading scorer would come from the Lethbridge side of the ball, with Randy Davis scoring 20 points. Waldner would be second on the team with 13 points, but would lead in rebounds with eight.

The Bisons will now travel to Calgary during the February 4 and 5 weekend, while Lethbridge (5-15) will have their conference bye week.

KAMLOOPS, BC - Some poor shot selection in the first half was the downfall of the Thompson Rivers  WolfPack in Canada West men’s basketball action on Saturday. falling to the visiting Calgary Dinos 82-68 at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Thompson R ivers is now 4-16.; Calgary moves to 6-12.

Calgary was led by Keenan Milburn's 21 points. Youri Anissovets had 14 points. Tyler Fidler put back 11 points and eight rebounds. For TRU, Greg Stewart 19 rebounds, 17 points.;Connor Agnew and Chas Kok each had 18.

The WolfPack close out the Canada West season at home with games against UVIC and UBC.  The Vikes are at the Tournament Capital Center February 4-5.

EDMONTON - A career night for sophomore guard Jordan Baker clinched a post-season berth for the Alberta Golden Bears, taking an 83-49 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen, Saturday night at the U of A’s Main Gym in Edmonton.

Last year’s Canada West Rookie of the Year scored a career-high 31 points and chad 24 rebounds, two shy of the Canada West record.  The Edmonton native earned 17 of those boards on the defensive side.  Daniel Ferguson chipped in with 14 points.

Senior guard Nick Lother notched 20 points in a losing cause, giving the Winnipeg native 35 points on the weekend.

The 14-6 Bears are now one of six teams with a playoff spot in Canada West.  Winnipeg drops to 2-16 on the season but still remains in the playoff hunt, needing to win out on all six remaining games and hoping to take over all five teams in front of them.

Alberta spends next week on the road in Saskatchewan before returning home for their final regular season games at the U of A’s historic Main Gym.  Winnipeg returns home to host the Fraser Valley Cascades.
