EDMONTON – Fourth-year Toronto Argonauts running back Anthony Coombs has been honoured as the Canada West Football Alumnus of the Month for July after racking up some big numbers for the Boatmen.

The Winnipeg, Man. native recorded 306 receiving yards for the Argos in four July games, finding the end zone once. His 350 receiving yards on the season puts him second in the CFL among Canadians, sitting behind only Ottawa REDBLACK Brad Sinopoli (440).

Coombs has proven to be a versatile offensive tool for Toronto since being drafted by the Argos third overall in the 2014 CFL Draft, following an outstanding four-year career at the University of Manitoba where he recorded 2,232 rushing yards and an additional 840 receiving yards.

A three-time Canada West all-star, Coombs still sits second in conference history with a per carry average of 7.52 yards and remains the CW record holder for longest rush at 107 yards.

He is the second Manitoba Bison to be named the CW Football Alum of the Month this season, after former teammate Nic Demski (WR – Saskatchewan Roughriders) earned the honour for June.

Coombs and the Argos (3-3) return to action this Thursday, when they host the Calgary Stampeders (4-1-1) at 5:30 p.m. MT.
