Kameron Vales made one of the best shots of the Canada West season on Friday when he nailed a three pointer late in the fourth quarter for the Regina Cougars in their matchup with the Thompson Rivers WolfPark. Vales' three tied the game at 76, and set the table for Regina's eventual 88-87 win in overtime. The beauty got some love on social media, with over 3,000 views over the weekend. Regina would go on to win Saturday as well, sweeping the series with an 84-77 victory.

The UBC Thunderbirds started the 2019 CW Women's Rugby 7s Series with a tournament win in Edmonton over the weekend. UBC went a perfect 5-0 to win the tourney, downing the Lethbridge Pronghorns in Sunday's first-place game under the Dome at Foote Field. The tournament was the first of three this season, as the next event goes February 2-3 in Abbotsford, before the Series finale March 2-3 in Vancouver.

Calgary Dino Joel Van Pelt, a fifth-year science student from Lethbridge, Alta., participated in the 94th edition of the prestigious East-West Shrine Game Saturday, representing Canada West at the annual college football all-star game. Van Pelt, a 2018 CFL Draft pick of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, was one of two Canadians at the event, as he was joined by Laval's Mathieu Betts. Since 1985, U SPORTS has sent players to the East-West Shrine Game, allowing Canadian players to put their talent on display against NCAA competition in front of NFL scouts.

In a meeting of two national title hopefuls, the Alberta Pandas and Calgary Dinos didn't disappoint Friday night. The pair, who came into the weekend ranked second (Calgary) and fifth (Alberta) in the U SPORTS top 10, provided a five-set thriller in the Stampede City. Alberta came out on top in the fifth set, earning a 20-18 win to take the match. The Dinos, however, would get some revenge Saturday, taking the contest 3-1.
