EDMONTON – Canada West and Artslinger, an Edmonton-based graphic design company, are excited to announce the pair have partnered on a conference rebrand.

Beginning with the 2017-18 season Canada West will have a new visual identity, as the conference will unveil a new primary logo to replace the current mark, which has been in use since the early 2000s.

In addition to a new primary mark, Canada West will also have new looks for its key properties, including Canada West TV and the Canada West playoffs, along with an updated conference website.

“Canada West prides itself on being a leader in university sport and part of that leadership is the drive to constantly improve,” said Adrienne Healey, Chair of the Canada West Marketing and Communications Committee. “We have embarked on a rebrand to develop a simplified, modern, and highly recognizable mark that can be used across all platforms and worn with pride by our student-athletes.”

The conference’s new look will mark the second time Canada West and Artslinger have partnered, as the pair previously collaborated to develop a logo for the conference’s football championship game – the Hardy Cup – prior to the 2015 season.

“The conference was ecstatic with Artslinger’s ability to capture our rich football history in the Hardy Cup logo,” said Evan Daum, Associate Director of Communications and Marketing for Canada West.

“The Hardy Cup logo has been well-received by our members and fans since its launch in 2015. The logo has helped shine a spotlight on one of Canadian university sport’s premier championships, and we expect our upcoming rebrand will deliver a great new look our 17 members will be proud of.”

Artslinger has developed a strong portfolio of work in the sports industry, including in university sport, after designing a logo celebrating the 100th season of Golden Bears hockey at the University of Alberta back in 2012.

"When clients like the Alberta Golden Bears, or Canada West come knocking, you pinch yourself – these are the big ones. They are the kinds of projects you dream about in design school, and they become the highlight of your portfolio. In this industry it matters who's calling on you,” said agency principal and designer for Artslinger Curtis Ogrodiuk.

Work on concepts for the Canada West rebrand are currently underway, with an unveil planned for August of this year.
