CALGARY – The reigning Canada West champion University of Calgary Dinos collected another three-set win (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) Friday night over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen at the Jack Simpson Gym.

The No. 2-ranked Dinos (13-2) needed just 66 minutes to hand the Wesmen their 12th setback of the season, hitting at a clip of better than 40 per cent in the victory.

Calgary's Hannah Tanasichuk led the way with 10 kills for Calgary, with Kate Pexman adding seven and Beth Vinnell chipping in with six. Kalena Schulz equaled Tanasichuk's 10-kill night, while Emma Parker contributed seven for the Wesmen (3-12).

"I think it was definitely a big win for us," said Autumn Davidson, who added four kills to a pair of digs and three blocks on the night off the bench for Calgary. "It was a team win with everyone coming out of the bench to play."

"We're going to try and keep our focus for tomorrow's match," said middle Marina Culo, who added three kills and an ace. We will try to come out and repeat the same energy and intensity as we did today."

The first set was a quick one. The Dinos consistently executed against the Wesmen, running the middle effectively and picking up four aces. Calgary closed the set with a 25-12 score.

The second set had the night's longest rally, but it was an eight-serve run by Dinos setter Leah Shevkenek that put it away. Shevkenek stepped behind the line with the Dinos leading 5-3, and by the time she was done the Dinos had a commanding 13-4 lead, cruising to a 25-15 victory.

In the third it was Kenzie Vaandering's turn to go on an eight-point service run, this time making it 12-4, as Calgary took another 25-12 win.

A total of 13 Dinos saw time on the court, giving their depth players a chance to get into game action as the stretch drive begins in Canada West.

The Dinos and the Wesmen will face each other again on Saturday for the last game of the weekend, with the first serve at 4 p.m. in the Jack Simpson Gym.
