WVB: No. 1 Dinos dispatch Huskies for weekend sweep

SASKATOON – The University of Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team avoided the dramatic finish of a five-set marathon last night, in rolling to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-20) victory over the host Saskatchewan Huskies on Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court, Nov. 10.
 
The win keeps Calgary perfect on the season as they move to 6-0 after three weekends of play. Saskatchewan meanwhile, falls to 2-4 after dropping both games of their first weekend at home.
 
Kate Pexman and Beth Vinnell recorded 12 kills apiece to pace the Dinos. Leah Shevkenek with 31 assists and Kenzie Vaandering with 17 digs were the other leaders for Calgary.
 
Emily Koshinsky and Taylor Annala were once again the top offensive players for Saskatchewan, recording eight and six kills respectively. Averie Allard helped out 16 assists while also adding a team-high 10 digs.
 
Saskatchewan came out of the gates swinging and jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first set. Calgary would respond almost immediately however and finished the set out-scoring the Huskies 22-10. A six-point run that took the game from 16-16 all the way to 22-16 in favour of the Dinos proved to the difference as Hannah Tanischuk sparked her team with two straight aces.
 
The Dinos ran away with the second set by a score of 25-16.
 
Once again Saskatchewan led throughout the early-goings in the frame before Calgary turned things around late. Trailing 12-16, the Dinos ended the set on a 13-point run.
 
A back-and-forth third set saw the Huskies battle hard against the Dinos before running out of steam late and falling 25-20.
