KELOWNA, BC - For the second consecutive night, the Heat women's volleyball team would fall in straight sets to the No. 3 ranked Trinity Western Spartans in the UBC Okanagan Gym.

Trinity would use runs in the middle part of all three sets to build leads and the Heat were never able to mount the comeback, falling by set scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-15.

With the loss, the Heat fall to 0-4 in the early season while Trinity Western improves their record to a perfect 4-0.

The Spartans block would be one of the differences in the match, as they finish with 13 total blocks compared to just five for the hometown Heat.

While neither team had a player finish in double-figures in kills, Mikaelyn Sych would lead the way with a game-high nine put-aways for the visitors. Heat rookie Sydney Grills led the attack for the fourth straight game with eight kills in the match.

First set:

After the Heat opened the match scoring the first two points, Trinity Western would go on an early run that featured nine points in a row that would build the early lead to 16-6 at the first set technical timeout. The Spartans block would be tough to get through in the opening frame as they had seven total blocks in the set to shutdown the Heat attack.

Second set:

It was a better start to the second frame for the home team as they would hold a narrow 8-7 advantage early in the set but another Spartans run would give them another lead going into the media timeout at 16-14. Six of the final eight points of the set would go Trinity's way which led to them closing out the frame 25-19 to take a two set lead. It was the Heat's best attacking frame of the night, finishing with 12 kills in the set on a .258 hitting percentage.

Third set:

Needing a third set win to keep the match alive, the Heat would hold the early set lead at 7-4 but it would be short lasted once again as the Spartans came storming back. Five points in a row in the middle part of the frame gave them a 13-8 lead and this would be enough for them to capture the final set by a 25-15 scoreline.

Other individual performances:

UBCO

• Setter Natalie Livingston was forced into duty for the fourth straight match and would do her best to keep the Heat in the match, racking up 18 assists along with six digs and three total blocks.
• Middle blocker Aidan Lea would be second leading attacker for the Heat with six kills on 12 total attacks. Lea would also have three blocks in the match.

Trinity Western

• Hilary Howe tallied seven kills on the night to go along with five block assists and four digs.
• Emma Gamache would have a match-high 10 digs along with six assists for the visiting Spartans.

What's next:

• The Heat (0-4) will be back on the court next weekend when they travel to east to face the Winnipeg Wesmen (0-1) in a two game set. Trinity Western (4-0) will be back on home court next weekend when they play host to the No. 5 ranked Alberta Pandas (4-0).
