WVB: Three-set win completes weekend sweep for Regina over Winnipeg

REGINA - Jessica Lerminiaux and Ashlee Sandiford both had 11 kills to lead the University of Regina's women's volleyball team to a three-set victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Lerminiaux's 11 kills came on just 20 attacks as she had a blistering .400 hitting percentage in the win. The Cougars opened the match with twin 25-18 wins in the first two sets, then went on a 4-1 run after a late timeout in the third set and clinched the match with a 25-21 victory.

Sandiford also had 10 digs to collect her second double-double in as many nights for Regina, which improves to 2-2 on the season. Taylor Ungar tied for the match lead with 17 digs, while Satomi Togawa had 36 assists and a match-leading three service aces.

Ashleigh Laube led all players with 14 kills for Winnipeg with teammate Kalena Schulz chipping in with 12 kills which came while hitting at a .345 clip. Emma Parker added seven kills and tied Ungar for the match lead with 17 digs.

The Wesmen (0-2) will now prepare for their home openers next weekend against UBC Okanagan, while the Cougars will travel to southern Alberta for a pair of matches at Calgary.
