KELOWNA - The Winnipeg Wesmen won a decisive third set but couldn't muster any more in dropping a 3-1 (25-18, 25-11, 16-25, 25-17) decision to the UBC-Okanagan Heat Saturday night in Kelowna, B.C.

Kalena Schulz had 10 kills, tied the team high in digs with 16 and hit .200 for the night as the Wesmen (1-19) dropped their second straight to one of the Canada West conference's top teams.

Emma Parker also had 10 kills and middle blocker Jessica Friesen, who was one of the Wesmen's key contributors Friday night with seven kills, put down seven more for the U of W cause.

The Wesmen hit .125 for the night, hurt by the second and fourth sets when they were held to .067 and .028 attacking, respectively.

Winnipeg fell behind 4-1 in the third set, but went on a four-point run and scored eight of the next nine to jump ahead 9-5. After stretching their lead to 14-9, the Wesmen won seven of the next eight points to push the advantage to 20-10.

Winnipeg, however, wasn't able to keep that momentum into the fourth, when the Heat (16-4) went on a nine-point run to take a 20-9 advantage.

Michelle Jakszuk had 14 kills to lead the Heat, who also got 11 kills from Aidan Lea.

The Wesmen return home for their final home games of the season Friday and Saturday against Alberta.
