REGINA, Sask. – For about a set and a half it was a close, see-saw affair but the Calgary Dinos finished off the Regina Cougars in three sets on Saturday night in women's volleyball action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The two teams went toe-to-toe in the first set and it looked like the Cougars would be on their way to an early lead after going up 23-19, but Calgary had a late response. The Dinos scored three straight points to get back into it, then survived two set points with kills by Beth Vinnell and Kate Pexman after the Cougars went up 24-22. The Dinos weren't able to convert on their first three set points, but a Laura McManes ace gave Calgary a 29-27 win in the first.

The second set started similarly, with the teams trading leads four times before Calgary turned the tide midway through the middle frame. The Dinos broke an 11-11 tie with four consecutive points, then scored the last six points of the set to claim a 25-15 win. Calgary dished out a total of four aces during that 14-4 run to end the set, getting two more from McManes and another two from Jaylynn Moffatt.

The third set was all Calgary. With backup setter Lexis Peart running the offence, the Dinos hit .520 in the final set and rolled to a 25-12 win to put away their second win in as many days over the Cougars.

Pexman and Vinnell both finished with 10 kills for Calgary, with Vinnell's total coming on just 13 attacks as she hit .769 in the win. Vinnell and Moffatt both had five blocks, while Amber Adolf was strong off the bench with seven kills and a .600 hitting percentage.

Regina libero Taylor Ungar led all players with 11 digs.

The Cougars (0-2) will now prepare for two road matches next weekend at Winnipeg, while Calgary (2-0) will play Manitoba twice in the first home action of the Canada West schedule for the Dinos.
