Kelowna B.C. – After Erica Lampert scored early in the second half to break the scoreless drought, the Heat responded with two more goals as they tripled up the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen for the (3-1) Sunday win.

The final home game for the UBC Okanagan women's soccer team started with a ceremony for the graduating players on Nonis Field.

For UBC Okanagan that was Lindsey Berthelsen, Emma Berwick, Jasmine Cooper, and Ally Ferronato, for the Wesmen that was just Tyler Johnson.

The three second half goals for UBCO were scored by three different players, all scoring their first on the year, as Erica Lampert opened the scoring with Ally Ferronato converting a PK, and then Maddy Ellis slipping by two defenders for final score on the day.

The Wesmen's goal was an own goal, as it was hit in by a Heat defender.

The win is their first since Sept. 15, and the first in the career of UBCO first year keeper Emma Terrillon, with that the Heat record improves to (3-7-2), with a single point edge in the playoff race.

The Wesmen fall to (0-8-2) on the season and are needing to win out and have some help with losses by Lethbridge, Regina and Saskatchewan in the final weekend.

For UBC Okanagan they need to at least earn a point in their final two matches of the season to stay ahead of TRU and UNBC.

Much is to be decided for both teams heading into the final weekend of play.

Next weekend, the Heat are playing their last two remaining games of the season with a gruelling road trip that has them in Edmonton on Friday against MacEwan, with a 5 p.m. PT start.

UBCO will then fly to Prince George on Saturday and play UNBC at noon on Sunday for the final match of the Canada West season.

The Winnipeg Wesmen are playing their two remaining games at home on Friday against the Regina Cougars, and on Saturday against the Saskatchewan Huskies.
