REGINA - The University of Regina women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by the Manitoba Bisons on Sunday afternoon at the U of R Field, as the Bisons claimed the final Canada West Prairie Division playoff spot.

Florin Wagner was the hero for the Bisons, as her seventh goal of the Canada West season stood up as the winner. Justina Jarmoszko stopped all seven Cougar shots to earn the clean sheet.

Much of the first half had passed with no score, but Wagner put the Bisons on the board in the 44th minute off an assist was Rebecca Martin. Wagner took a feed with space in the midfield and fired a shot from 30 yards out that sailed over the head of Ashton Lowry and just under the crossbar.

The best chance for the Cougars in the first half came in the 29th minute, as Daniela Castro was sent in and beat Jarmoszko with a low shot but the linesman ruled Castro offside.

The Regina attack was held in check in the second half largely due to a steady Manitoba offence. The Bisons were able to clog up the midfield for the final ten minutes as the Cougars were unable to get any quality chances going towards the net. The Cougars didn't have a single corner kick for the match, as Manitoba had six opportunities from the corner.

Lowry made six saves, including two on back-to-back shots from Sara Schur and Rebecca Martin in the 74th minute.

The Cougars finish the season with a 1-7-6 record, graduating Shayla Kapila, Nikita Senko, Daniela Castro, Rachel Taylor and Olivia Bolen from the program.
