REGINA - The University of Regina women's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen at the U of R Field on a windy Saturday afternoon.

The Cougar win paired with a Manitoba Bisons loss against the Saskatchewan Huskies means that Sunday's matchup between the Cougars and Bisons will determine who claims the final Canada West Prairie Division playoff spot.

The deciding marker on Saturday came in the 60th minute, as a cross from Sydney Langen into the box went off a Winnipeg defender and past Madison Fordyce.

The Cougars controlled play for the majority of the 90 minutes as the wind played a large factor. Regina tallied a season-high 14 shots on goal, compared to just four from Manitoba as Ashton Lowry stopped all of them to earn the clean sheet.

The best chance other than the Cougar goal came in the 45th minute when Sarah Moroziuk played a long ball right down the middle for Langen. Langen had a step on the final Wesmen defender and went in alone, but a difficult touch forced her to rush her shot and it slipped just wide of the right post.

The Cougars (1-6-6) and Bisons will take to the U of R Field on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for noon.
