WSOC - Wesmen, Griffins Battle To 1-1 Draw

WINNIPEG - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the MacEwan University Griffins battled to a 1-1 draw in Canada West Women's Soccer action Friday night at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.

Macewan with the tie goes to 6-4-1. Winnipeg picks up their second consecutive draw and goes to 1-7-3.

Wesmen midfielder Tyler Johnson scored her 1st goal of the season in the 26th minute. Kaylin Hermanutz scored her 3rd goal of the season for the Griffins in the 44th minute.

The game was a tight defensive battle in the opening stages as both teams battled for field position in windy and cool conditions in the opening 15 minutes of play.

Winnipeg opened scoring in the 26th minute when Tyler Johnson took a loose ball and put a perfect shot in the top right corner to give the Wesmen a 1-0 lead.

The Griffins evened the match in the 44th minuteas second year midfielder Kaylin Hermanutz took a cross pass from Meghan Oram and beat Wesmen goalkeeper Madison Fordyce to tie the score at 1-1.

Both teams had some chances in the scond half but neither team was able to get the go ahead goal.

Winnipeg will close out their regular season home schedule Saturday night against UNBC at 7:00 p.m. MacEwan will take on the Manitoba Bisons.
