WSOC: Wesmen, Bisons Battle To Scoreless Draw At Duckworth Challenge

WINNIPEG - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the University of Manitoba Bisons battled to a scoreless draw in the soccer portion of the 27th Annual Duckworth Challenge Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.

The game was the backend of a home and home series between the two cross town rivals. Manitoba won the series opener 4-0 Saturday afternoon.

Manitoba with the tie improves to 3-4-3 in regular season play. Winnipeg goes to 1-7-2 in the Canada West Women's Soccer standings.

Wesmen goalkeeper Madison Fordyce made five saves. The duo of Justina Jarmoszko and Madison Wilford made six saves for the Bisons. Wilford replaced Jarmoszko in the 33rd minute due to inury.

Manitoba took a total of 12 shots, Winnipeg finished with 11.

Second year defender Amy Clayton (Wpg) and third year midfielder Amanda Wong (Man) were named the Duckworth Challenge Players of the Match.

Winnipeg will close out their regular season home schedule next weekend with games Friday against MacEwan and Saturday facing UNBC. Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m. Manitoba will face the Timberwolves on Friday and the Griffins on Saturday at the U of Manitoba.
