LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western tallied four second-half goals as the Spartans cruised to a 5-0 win over Fraser Valley Friday at Chase Office Field.

After the Spartans (7-2-0) went up 1-0 in the first half on a Cascades own goal, the Spartans offence exploded in the second half, with Kathleen Chin (Calgary) scoring twice and Rachel Hutchinson (Cloverdale, B.C.) and Gabi Short (Calgary) each putting up singles to lead TWU to its sixth straight win.

The shutout, which saw the Spartans hold UFV (4-3-2) without a single shot on goal, is also TWU's sixth consecutive clean sheet. TWU hasn't allowed a goal in 556 minutes.

The Spartans have now outscored their opposition 14-0 in their last three games, including home wins against UBC Okanagan (4-0) and Thompson Rivers (5-0) last weekend.

With TWU holding all of the possession early on, the Spartans got the game's first goal when a Hutchinson cross was deflected into the back of the Cascades net.

In the second half, Hutchinson sparked the Spartans offensive charge with a 52nd minute goal.

Seven minutes later Chin buried her first of the night before she converted again on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

Short, who is in her second year with TWU but missed all of last season with an injury, scored her first as a Spartan in the 88th minute with a shot from outside of the box to the left corner.

The Spartans outshot UFV 16-1. TWU goalie Christina Oliverio (Calgary) picked up the shutout.

Cascades goalie Emily Harold made six in the loss.

"It took us a little while to get into our rhythm in the first half, but I thought overall we controlled the play. I'm really pleased with the back four and how they defended. UFV looked to counter us and they have some dangerous players, but I thought we dealt with their threats and were tidy with our clearances. As the game wore on, we started to find our rhythm and scored some very nice goals.

"It's focus. It would be silly to think that that we'll get the same result when we go to their park. It's a different park, a different atmosphere and a different game. Rob (Giesbrecht) is a great coach. They'll rebound and respond and we expect a battle."

• The last time UFV beat TWU in a regular season or playoff game was in the Canada West semifinals on Nov. 6, 2010, when UFV won 3-2 in a shootout.
