VANCOUVER -- The UBC Thunderbirds (7-1-1) played to a 1-1 draw with the Northern BC Timberwolves (2-5-1) on Sunday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium, snapping a seven-game win streak despite 12 shots on target, and 33 overall.

Aman Shergill opened the scoring with her fifth goal of the season in the 69th minute of play, set up by Margaret Hadley.

"It was nice to get the one goal, we got a bit of momentum from there, but I feel like we sat back a bit when we could have kept going and gotten more shots on," said Shergill. "They had a pretty low defense block, so it was hard to get through them. We had a bit of a tough time dealing with that...they gave us a good battle."

The Timberwolves took advantage of their third shot of the game in the 80th minute, when Tianna Puis took a touch and launched the ball from 15 yards over Emily Moore's outstretched arm to knot it up at one goal apiece.

Brooke Molby made seven saves in 61 shutout minutes for UNBC before Madi Doyle took over to finish the game.

UBC came close to the go-ahead goal in the dying seconds of action when Doyle handled the ball outside of the box, allowing Shergill one last chance on a free kick - but sailed it just over the crossbar.

"I think as a team we have to finish our chances, and if we don't score goals, we don't win," said T-Birds head coach Jesse Symons. "Unfortunately we rushed a few [chances] and didn't put the ball in the net. As a group, we need to look at the full picture and want to play faster and not just play at a level that's comfortable. We had a lot of chances...and in a different game we win by six, so that's just how it is."

The 'Birds are now even with the Victoria Vikes with 22 points atop the Canada West - setting up a showdown between the two BC rivals next weekend at Thunderbird Stadium on Friday night.

The Timberwolves will head to Edmonton next weekend for a pair of contests against MacEwan.
