KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team took on the perennial Canada West title contender Victoria Vikes on Saturday afternoon. With the ball finding the net just once in the game, the ball spent most of the full 90 around midfield as neither team could gain any overwhelming offensive momentum.

That lone goal came in the first half (31') on a corner kick, and after that point there were very few legitimate scoring chances from either side. The Heat and the Vikes were evenly matched in speed and passing on the day, keeping each other in check and allowing for very little offensive manoeuvring.

The second half saw the Heat earn three shots to the Vikes' two, but were unable to even up the score as Victoria's strong defence was able to shut down nearly every lead pass and attempted break. At the final whistle shots were seven for the Vikes and four for the Heat.

Scoring Play:

The only goal of the match was scored by Vikes veteran midfielder Stephanie Badilla Gutierrez in the 31st minute. She curled a corner kick into a scrum in front of Heat keeper Francesca Balletta, who was unable to keep out a quick ricochet in front.

Keeper Stats:

Francesca Balletta faced two recorded shots on goal, of the Vikes' seven total shots, making a lone recorded save in the 76th minute. Victoria's keeper, Puck Louwes also had just one save in the match, which she made just before Balletta's, in the 75th to keep out a shot from the Heat's Kacee Ougden.

What's Next:

The UBC Okanagan Heat (0-4-1) will play their next match tomorrow afternoon against the UBC Thunderbirds (5-1), with kick-off set for 1 p.m. PDT at Nonis Field in Kelowna. For the University of Victoria Vikes (4-1-1), their next opponent will be the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (1-4) at noon tomorrow in Kamloops.
