REGINA - The University of Regina women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the visiting Calgary Dinos at the U of R Field on Saturday afternoon.

Sienna Prince-McPherson, Montana Leonard and Maddison Fritze had goals for the Dinos.

The Dinos mustered a whopping 23 shots on the afternoon, 12 of which were on goal. Regina countered with 10 total shots, but all three on net were handled by Lauren Houghton.

The Cougars had a good chance at the goal in the 18th minute, as Brigit Sinaga played a cross into the box from about 30 yards out. Cassie Longmuir, who moved from her defender spot to striker for Saturday's match, had snuck behind the Dino back line but her shot on goal sailed high.

Calgary got on the board first in the 31st minute as Kayla Kreutzer made her way into the box on the left side of the pitch. She put a hard shot on goal that Ashton Lowry knocked away, but the rebound found Prince-McPherson at the top of the box and she lofted a soft shot over Lowry and into the goal.

The second half started with back-and-forth action, as Brianna Wright had a good chance from deep in the box but it was blocked by a Dino defender. Seconds later Leonard had a long run for the Dinos and went in alone on Lowry. Her shot slipped under the keeper but hit the post and Lowry was able to pounce on the rebound.

The Dinos added an insurance goal in the 50th minute as Leonard was sent up the left side on a similar through ball. The cross was intended for Fritze but ended up deflecting off a Cougar defender and past Lowry to make the score 2-0.

Calgary continued to swarm the Cougar goal and Fritze had another chance a few minutes later but Lowry made a fine save to deny the fourth-year forward. The constant pressure paid off again for the Dinos in the 62nd minute following a foul on the Cougars. Leonard lined up a free kick from 20 yards out and curled a beauty of a shot that went off the crossbar and in to expand the lead to 3-0.

Fritze netted her third goal of the season in the 83rd minute but it was Leonard who deserved a lot of the credit. Leonard took a nice run down the right side fighting off a defender the whole way before getting deep in the box and playing a perfect ball in front. All Fritze had to do was get a foot on it to put it home and put the visitors up 4-0.

Regina (0-2-3) will look for their first win of the season on Sunday as the Lethbridge Pronghorns are in town for a noon kickoff. Calgary improves to 2-2-1 and will head north for a matchup with the first-place Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
